COVID Training Testimonials

“We are living in a chaotic time filled with uncertainty of what the future holds. Training has helped me take a break from the madness and allows me the opportunity to stay grounded and focused. I will say that training has been a major component in helping me get through this odd time. Kak Wona and Kak Rendy are very passionate about Silat and making sure we continue to train. Many places have completely shut down and business owners are not engaged with their students. That is not the case at the Silat Martial Arts Academy. Their dedication to the art and to their students has by far exceeded my expectations. They also have stayed engaged with me during the week for feedback and to answer any questions I have. I can not stress enough of how grateful I am.” – Natt Fiumara

“Great training with SFA Rockville throughout the confinement. While we will always miss the personal interaction with our instructors and colleagues, the virtual sessions have allowed us to stay fit and to continue our learning of this great art. Special thanks to Kak Wona and Kak Rendy!” – Christophe Nurit

“Since we have been doing the online training during this pandemic training ihas been really motivating and gives me more time to really go deeply into our Silat training. My wife is even observed the training and it has become very much a part of our lives.” – Don Dillingham

“Online training 3x/week during lockdown allows us to stay active & productive, keep up with/intact with the class curriculum & instructors, and do group discussion. After partial lifted rules, students have options to train outdoor in small group while still comply with strict rules by the state. Our instructors, Kak Wona and Kak Randy, are very helpful and accommodating students’ needs. Although we are still facing challenges not being able to practice with physical contact, but we know we are all in this together and we make the best of productivity out of the bad situation.” – Poppy Budhiastuti

“I was impressed in the way our instructors were able to still conduct classes during a global pandemic. Being able to train and participate in silat during what is considered a very stressful time for most has definitely helped me stay focused, grounded, and benefitted my mental health as it managed or completely extinguished any negative thoughts or feelings regarding the matter. In a society where we are constantly expected to hustle and bustle, it was a monumental shift to slow down and really work on internal training or well being (ie. Meditation, yoga, breathing, reflections, etc). I feel as though this is significant in getting through the more difficult days and without the push, I would not have done as much in my training, especially being confined to my quarantine space. Furthermore, I was able to share my yoga and meditation experiences with friends and family and help them cope through their anxieties, sad moments, and insecurities from the quarantine. Satria Arts is great in the way that it addresses more than just physical training and benefits other aspects of my life. Being quarantined during COVID, I was able to see just how beneficial it was and I am grateful for this amazing community. Not only was I able to still interact and see my classmates and instructors, it also presented opportunities to use the sasaran and resources I have at hand for training.” – Esti Karnoto

“It was nice to be able to still continue our journey in silat through zoom sessions. Classes were adapted to accommodate people in smaller spaces and those who live with neighbors. It was a great and refreshing experience and we were happy to be apart of it.” – Kevin & Aziza Banks

“Even though we couldn’t practice with a partner I’m glad that we still got to practice Silat virtually. I appreciated that the training schedule focused on the intricate parts such as kambagan, langkah, gelek, karambit, body positioning and weight distribution in kucing and harimau, and breathing. Instead of sparring on Saturday’s we did meditation which I though was very important during this stressful time. I was happy that I got to see my friends and practice Silat virtually and it kept our community going”. – Renee
